Tumble's Tucking Trail
Page 2
The night-light glowed soft and yellow. Tumble pushed his purple sleep mask up like a headband. He looked at the playroom. Toys everywhere. Blocks. Dolls. A red truck. A stuffed parrot. "I will tuck every toy in before the light clicks off," he promised.

He started with the blocks. One by one, gentle as a raindrop, into the wooden crate. Tumble hummed. So far so good. He reached for the blue block and—SQUEAK! A tiny toy mouse tumbled out. Tumble jumped. His scales prickled. He curled tight into a ball.

And rolled. Whoooosh! Across the floor he went, bumping the crate. Blocks scattered like marbles. Dolls tumbled. The red truck rolled sideways. Tumble unrolled, dizzy. "Oh no! My plan!" But he didn't give up. He started again, stacking faster.

He tucked the truck into its corner. Tucked the parrot into its basket. Everything neat and tidy. Then he bent for the last doll and—his foot caught a blanket. Tumble wobbled. His arms windmilled. Down he went, curling into a ball again.

ROLL ROLL ROLL! He knocked over the whole basket. Toys sprayed everywhere like confetti. Tumble stopped, breathing hard. The night-light flickered. Not much time left. Tumble sat very still, thinking. His little claws tapped. Then his face brightened.

"Rolling isn't the problem," Tumble whispered. "Rolling is the answer. I just need to plan the route." He studied the room like a map. Here was the shelf. There was the basket. And there—the toy chest by the window. A perfect path.

Tumble lined up all the toys in a curved line across the floor. Block, doll, truck, parrot, mouse. He climbed onto a low stool and looked down. Yes. The curve was perfect. Everything ready.

Tumble took a breath, curled into a ball, and rolled. The curve caught him just right. He rolled smoothly, gathering toys as he went—block, doll, truck, parrot, mouse—all tumbling along like friends in a parade.

Straight toward the open toy chest. WHOMP! They all landed together in a heap of happy chaos. Tumble unrolled inside, laughing. Every single toy was tucked away. The night-light glowed warm and proud.

Tumble pulled a soft blanket over himself and settled into the nest of toys. "Best bedtime ever," he yawned, pushing his purple sleep mask down over his eyes. The playroom was quiet. Safe. Complete.

The night-light clicked softly off. In the dark, Tumble smiled. Tomorrow there would be new toys to tuck and new tumbles to take. But tonight, everything was exactly where it belonged. Including him.
