Where Did the Eggs Go?

Page 2

For Easter, Pip the bunny had three painted wooden eggs and a basket. His long ears bobbed above his red boots. He tucked one egg behind the barn door. Then he turned to hide another. Hattie the brown hen, wearing her yellow scarf, popped the first egg into the basket.

Pip peeked behind the barn door. Nothing! He peeked in the basket. One egg! "That is funny," said Pip. He hid it behind the door again, then carried the other two eggs toward the hay bale. Behind him, Hattie tucked the first egg safely into the basket. Plop!

Pip put the other two eggs under the hay bale. One, two. He walked around it to check his hiding place. Hattie popped both eggs into the basket. Plop, plop! Pip came back. No eggs! He looked at Hattie. Hattie looked at the sky.

Pip looked in the basket. Three eggs! Hattie's scarf fluttered as she straightened the handle. "You keep finding them," Pip said. "Now you hide them, and I'll look." Pip covered his eyes with his long ears. Hattie popped all three eggs into the basket and sat down beside it.

"Ready!" called Hattie. Pip opened his eyes. There sat Hattie. There sat the basket. "I know!" said Pip. "They're in the basket!" "How did you guess?" asked Hattie. "One, two, three plops," said Pip. Hattie laughed so hard her scarf slipped over her beak. Pip laughed, too. Plop!
