Hollis loved the last turn of his bedtime game: the great pillow mountain. Tonight his baby brother, Eben, could play too. Hollis stacked three pillows high and draped a blanket over them. "Welcome to the mountain!" he called. Eben tucked himself beneath one corner.

Hollis made his deepest mountain voice. "Who goes there?" Eben peeked out. "Me," he whispered. Hollis waited for Eben to climb up and over, the way Hollis always did. But Eben stayed where the blanket made a little roof. "Here," he said.

"Here?" Hollis looked at his mountain. No one could see the top from down there. He lifted a pillow to make room beside Eben, but the whole mountain leaned over and settled with a soft whump. Eben laughed. Hollis did not, at first.

Hollis had wanted to show Eben his favorite part. He hugged the fallen pillow. "I still want my turn on top," he said. Eben patted the blanket corner. "And me here?" Hollis thought about that. Then he set one pillow back on the bed.

Hollis climbed onto the pillow. From his little peak, he asked in his grandest voice, "Who goes there?" "Me," whispered Eben from under his roof. "Come in," said Hollis, lifting the blanket edge just enough to touch Eben’s paw. The mountain grew quiet around them.
