Beside the Christmas tree, Pogo tucked in his red scarf. He had planned a grand dance just for Mallow, the whiskery seal. "Watch my tiptoes!" said Pogo. Tip, tip, tip—FLOP! Into the soft snow. Mallow clapped his flippers. "Again!"

Pogo brushed snow from his beak. "Now, my proud turn!" he said. Turn, turn, turn—FLOP! Into the soft snow. Mallow laughed so hard his whiskers shook. Then Mallow tried a turn. Turn, turn, turn—FLOP! Right beside Pogo.

Pogo sat up, cross. "That was my flop," he said. Mallow’s whiskers drooped. "I wanted to dance with you." Pogo looked at Mallow. Mallow looked at Pogo. A puff of snow sat on each of their heads. Pogo snorted.

"Wait," said Pogo. "Let’s make it sillier!" He waddled three steps. Waddle, waddle, waddle—WIGGLE! His scarf swung one way; his bottom swung the other. Then he leaped into a belly flop. POOF! Snow sprinkled the lowest branch of the Christmas tree.

Mallow waddled beside him. Waddle, waddle, waddle—WIGGLE! Belly flop—POOF! Snow sprinkled them both. Pogo giggled. Mallow giggled. For his magnificent final bow, Pogo lay flat on his tummy. Mallow copied him. This time Pogo grinned. "Encore?" said Mallow. "After a nap," said Pogo.
