Fenn tucked Nell and two stuffed rabbits under a quilt. "Tonight's story will be so wonderful," she said, "you won't sleep a wink!" She began with a dragon finding a warm, smooth stone. Nell yawned. One rabbit tipped sideways. Fenn frowned.

"A trumpet!" cried Fenn. She blew into her cupped hands: "PA-PA-POOO!" Nell pulled the quilt over her ears. "The dragon roars louder than thunder!" Fenn boomed. Both rabbits fell off the bed. Then Fenn gave the dragon a hiccup so enormous the pillow bounced.

Nell set the rabbits upright. "Fenn," she said, "my ears are tired." Fenn's own throat felt scratchy. "But you'll forget my story if you fall asleep." Nell shook her head. "I remember the warm stone. And how the dragon held it against his cheek."

"You do?" Fenn whispered. She tried again. The dragon carried his stone past a log, but the log was too bumpy. Nell smoothed the quilt. "Try this hill," she murmured. Fenn made her voice soft enough for the rabbits to stay upright.

The dragon curled on the quilt-hill. Nell tucked one rabbit beside him and pulled the other close. "Room for everyone," she whispered. Fenn gave the dragon one tiny hiccup. "Pip." Nell smiled. Fenn's head drooped. "And then the dragon said, 'What a lovely place to..."
